Ocean Breeze Park is a town located in Martin County, Florida. The fascinating history of Ocean Breeze dates back to the early settlers of the land. It may seem unlikely, but Ocean Breeze has ties to Japan. In 1905, Joseph Sakai, a member of the Yamato Colony, persuaded a group of Japanese farmers to cultivate the fertile Florida ground for pineapples and vegetables. It was a short-lived but successful project, and today part of the fertile ground is home to the Ocean Breeze. The Yamato Colony was comprised of pioneering Japanese families in a brave agricultural experiment and struggle to adjust as immigrants in Palm Beach County in the early 1900s. |
